Minutemen Sports Highlights for the Week Ending September 16, 2001

Madison's Caroline Bugg, a junior at Newark Academy, raced to her third straight title in the Newark Academy Cross Country Invitational contested in Livingston on Saturday. Bugg was clocked in 19 minutes, 27 seconds as she completed the 3.1-mile course in Essex County.
Keeper Wiley Griffin of Maplewood posted his second shutout of the 2001 boys soccer campaign to spur the Minutement to a 7-0 rout of Cedar Grove in a Colonial Hills Conference confrontation played in Cedar Grove on Thursday. It was the second straight win for the undefeated Minutemen. Parsippany's Brett Gewirtzman ignited a five-goal outburst in the opening half when he netted the first two goals.
Randolph's Robin Carter came on strong to defeat Chistal Kelso 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1 singles in a 5-0 win over Pingry. North Caldwell frosh Brett Finkelstein rallied to 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 triumph against Gabby Rosenphal at second singles while Kinnelon junior Nisha Suda defeated Allison Johnson 6-2, 6-4 at third singles.
